Following the Prophetic path on the day of celebration
Eid al-Fitr is a day of gratitude and joy. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us specific sunnah acts that beautify this day and bring us closer to Allah. From waking up before dawn to the special route home, every act carries blessings. Below is a detailed guide.

Wake up early
Rise before usual to prepare for worship and reflection.

Ghusl (bath)
Perform a full purification bath before Eid prayer.
3
Best attire & Oudh
Wear the finest clothes and apply non-alcoholic perfume.
4
Odd dates
Break fast with an odd number of dates before prayer.
5
Zakat al-Fitr
Pay before Eid prayer to purify fasting.
6
Takbeerat
Recite takbeer from night until prayer begins.
7
Different route
Return from prayer via a different path.
8
Greet warmly
Exchange sincere greetings with family and friends.

TakbeeratFrom Fajr on the day of Arafat until Eid prayer, men recite loudly, women softly.
Go to prayer earlyWalk to the prayer ground if possible, displaying humility and unity.
Different routeReturn via another road to greet more people and spread salam.
Greet family & friendsExchange sincere duas: “Taqabbalallahu minna wa minkum” (May Allah accept from us and you).
Zakat al-Fitr – obligatory charity due before Eid prayer. The amount is approximately 2.5 kg of staple food per person. It cleanses any shortcomings in fasting and allows the poor to share the joy. The Prophet ordered it to be given before people go out to prayer. (primary and secondary used)

What is the wisdom behind eating dates on Eid before prayer?
It symbolises breaking the fast immediately and following the Prophetic example. Dates are blessed and provide quick energy. It also confirms that the fast is over and it’s the day of eating and drinking.
My child asks why we take a different route home?
The Prophet did that to greet more people, to spread salams, and to make the earth witness our worship on both paths. It also increases the number of places that testify for us on Judgment Day.
Is Zakat al-Fitr a sunnah or obligation? When exactly should we give it?
It is wajib (obligatory) upon every Muslim who possesses excess provision. Best time is before Eid prayer; delaying it after prayer counts as ordinary charity, not Zakat al-Fitr. Many pay one or two days before.
