Dua of Ibrahim (A.S)— legacy of prayer
رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۖ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
translation “My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and also from my descendants. Our Lord, accept my supplication.”

The essence of Khalil's dua

Ibrahim (A.S) built the foundation of monotheism and prayer (salah). In this profound supplication from Surah Ibrahim (14:40), the Prophet asks Allah to make him and his progeny constant in prayer. The verse reflects a leader’s concern: worship that continues across generations. The primary color #36467C symbolises depth and steadfastness, while the accent #ffbd59 echoes the light of guidance inherited by the ummah.
Teacher (tarbiyah)
How can we instil the love of salah in our children the way Ibrahim (A.S) prayed for his descendants?
Parent
We start by connecting them to the Prophet's example. Displaying consistency in our own prayers and explaining that this du'a is a blueprint: we ask Allah exactly as Ibrahim did, then we strive practically. At home, we set aside distractions and pray together, even if just one prayer.
Teacher (Qur'an halaqa)
What does “wa min dhurriyyatī” teach us about intergenerational faith?
Parent
That faith is not only personal. Ibrahim could have asked only for himself, but he yearned for righteous descendants. We learn to make du'a for our children's children. It also reminds us to create an environment where salah is normalised, not forced. I tell my son: your great-grandfather prayed, and we continue the chain.

The du'a ends with “wa taqabbal du'a”. Why is acceptance tied to the whole supplication?
Parent
Because sincerity is key. Ibrahim (A.S) teaches us that after striving, we turn to Allah to accept our humble efforts. It's a tarbiyah moment: we are not self-sufficient. We ask Allah to make our children among the steadfast, and then we leave the outcome to Him. This melts parental anxiety.
teacher insight Question: “How often should we recite this specific dua?”
parent answer Daily, especially after salah. The Prophet recommended supplications from Qur'an. I teach my children to say it every morning: it links them to Ibrahim's legacy. We printed the verse in Arabic and placed it on the fridge as a visual reminder.
Ustadh

What if a child is lazy about Fajr? Does the dua help practically?

Parent

Absolutely. We recite 'rabbi jalni muqimas salah' before sleeping, and we remind them: Ibrahim's descendants carried the prayer through hardship. We also make it warm, use gradual wake-up, and link the reward. The dua changes the heart; we then use wisdom.
